One of the things I remember most fondly about my childhood was making things with my mother. Whether we were making felt ornaments for the Christmas tree or cookies for every kid in the neighborhood, we always had bonding time and great fun. We didn't intentionally add magic, but I know it was there because the things contained so much joy and love. Witchcraft is a natural fit for this kind of activity. Do it with your children, your friends, or alone, but get out the Elmers or the spices and get your witch crafting on!
Sewing magic into crafts and garments probably was invented about the same time as sewing. It can be as simple as attaching a button with four strands of thread and through the four holes in the button while you consciously think of the protective energy of the number four, or as intricate as embroidering magical symbols on a robe for ritual wear. There are many books that have patterns, directions, and full instructions for creating magical garments from literal whole cloth to embellishing your current wardrobe.
You can also stir up a little, or a lot, of magic in the kitchen. Use cinnamon in your baked goods for energy, cloves for money, love, or protection, or braid boiled eggs into your bread for abundance. There are lots of books with some very yummy recipes for magical foods, and many which also include tasty healing concoctions.
Craft possibilities abound for the Sabbats. Carve candles for Imbolc. Dye eggs for Ostara using natural dyes. Red cabbage makes a lovely blue dye. Make tissue paper flowers for Beltane, Sun lemon tea for Midsummer, bread for Lammas, decoupage autumn leaf cutouts on cardboard treasure boxes for Mabon, carve jack o' lanterns for Samhain, and make Yule log cakes. Check out the Sabbat articles series by Karen Charboneau-Harrison, or the books on the holidays for even more ideas, and detailed instructions.
Celebrating and decorating can be fun and as expensive or inexpensive as you like - gather the family and friends and get Witch Crafty!
