Moldavite was created millions of years ago when a meteorite smashed into the Moldova river region in what is now Czechia. Meteors come in fast and hot, and, when they impact Earth, melt the sand and dirt in the area of the strike. If this contains the right amount of silica, it resolidifies as glass, and is called tektite. Moldavite is a tektite, and the only one with its particular combination of space minerals and earth minerals.
Moldavite gets its green color from aluminum and iron oxides. When faceted, it exhibits a relatively high refractive index, making it a sparkly, attractive gemstone. It is available in jewelry in faceted or raw forms, and in raw, untumbled loose specimens. It looks like glass, because it is. This has led some less than scrupulous vendors to sell green glass as moldavite. From an aesthetic viewpoint, this is fine. From an energetic position, not so much. Because real moldavite formed outside lab conditions, it has a rough shape when raw, and often contains bubbles and other impurities. Only when polished will it have any surface shine. The best way to ensure you are buying the real thing is to buy from a reputable vendor, such as Goddess Isis Books and Gifts. Ours is only sourced from suppliers we trust, and have used for years, oftimes decades.
Spiritually, moldavite is known as the Starborn Stone of Transformation. It assists with Pleiadian and star connections, and is a high vibration stone of spiritual growth, enlightenment, and ascension. Many people have reported major life changes after starting work with it. Most who use it report feeling a strong energetic sensation, sometimes described as a buzz, when handling it. Some are so sensitive they can only have it in their auric field for a few minutes at a time. Sometimes it has to be stored outside the living areas of the house until the user builds a tolerance to it. Others can wear it 24/7 with no unpleasant effects. There are some of us to whom it is only a scientific curiosity and a pretty piece of jewelry when faceted and set.
If you are sensitive, the stone can initiate major life changes needed for spiritual and psychological growth and healing. These can be painful, such as romantic break ups, job changes, even cross country moves. They can also be joyous - finding your life's work, your true spiritual path, soul group friends with whom to continue your journey. Before you begin your journey with this transformer, make sure you are psyched up for growth and new beginnings.
We have heard that you are not supposed to buy your own moldavite. My thought, if you can get someone else to spend their money on you, always do. But there is nothing wrong with buying your own stone. Faceted or raw does not matter, either, unless it does to you personally. Both ways have strong transformational energy. If you are comfortable wearing it, there is no reason not to let its energy stay in your auric field and do its work. A loose stone can be held in the hands while meditating, put under your pillow for dreamwork, or on your altar for ritual.
Good stones to pair with it are danburite, herkimer diamond, clear quartz, amethyst, aquamarine, and apophyllite. Herbs include jasmin, mugwort, patchouli, and star anise. Oils are pine, light musk, and Pleiades. Incenses or bathsalts include Earth, Air, or Pleiades.
Use these oils or incenses while holding moldavite and one or more of its synergestic stones while meditating to enhance your connection to Spirit, to life, and to the Divine. When you are ready for a major life reboot and spiritual growth and transformation, invite moldavite into your life and let it work its starborn healing magic on you.
