Gnomes and gardens go hand in hand, but what else can you put in there? The options are practically endless, so the first question is what energy do you want for your garden? What, other than fruits, veggies, and flowers, do you want to grow?

If you envision your garden, or yard, as a peaceful retreat, a place of meditation and rejuvenation, you could go with a Zen theme. A statue of Buddha or Kuan Yin, a fountain, or a small stream would be some ideas. Large, rounded rocks go well with this concept, as do gazing balls, chimes, and stones carved with labyrinths or nature images. A cedar tree in a corner, lotuses in a water garden, and a bench for repose can be added. Whatever your idea of a peaceful hide away entails. (Don't use crystal balls - they can act like lenses and set things on fire!)

Gnomes are extremely traditional, and come in all shapes, sizes, and activities. Tiny ones are a terrific add to indoor gardens and potted plants. Likewise with fairies, who bring a bright, cheerful energy to any space. Tuck them into hidden spots so visitors have to really look to find them. Dragons can peek out from under indoor or outdoor plants, or be front and center, guarding the entrance to your lair. Gargoyles' purpose in being is to protect a space.

Stone trees, small, medium, or large, add visual interest as well as magical energy, and come in indoor or outdoor sizes. A chakra stone tree would make a great addition to a healing garden. Tiny ones can tuck into a potted plant in any room in the house and leak their healing energy into your space. Just make sure the materials are suitable for outdoor use if that is their destination.

Another truly traditional garden decoration is stone animals or birds. Invite the magic of the specific animal by having a representation of it. Birds are freedom and seeing the higher perspective. Wolves are knowledge and family. Deer represent innocence and a return to wildness. Cats are mystery, magic, and independence. Research the best animal for your intentions and make them a home there.

Wind chimes invite a light, happy fairy vibe, and can be obtained with crystals, birds, butterflies, dragons or dragonflies on them. Let them invite you on flights of fancy while their bell-like sounds clear the energy in your space.

Let your imagination run wild and use statues, chimes, stones, or water features to create the space, the purpose, and the vibe you want. It's your garden. Grow your desires!
