Beat the Sunday Blues by Learning!

Many Americans have Saturday and Sunday off and spend those days playing and getting far from the nine to five.  When Sunday evening rolls around, the mugwumps set in as we contemplate the return to the strictures and structures of our weekday jobs.  Learning something new is a great way to help prevent that.

Taking a class in any subject you find interesting lets you get out of the house, interact with other people who share your interests, exercise your mind, and possibly your body, and improves your outlook by generating mood elevating neurotransmitters.  This can also be a great opportunity to increase your knowledge and skills in an area you can monetize, and get your side hustle on.  We have many classes at Goddess Isis, some in store, some via ZOOM.  Check them out at Events.isisbooks.com.

If you don't have a class in your area or price range that intrigues you, consider a structured course of self study.  Tarot lends itself wonderfully to this pursuit.  You can set aside half an hour or an hour on Sunday night and work with a different card or group of cards every week.  Runes also fit this structure well, as do herbs, oils, magical alphabets, or stones.

The main thing is to find something compelling that will hold your interest over the long term, or that you think might.  Give the new habit at least 6 weeks, and, if you find you hate it, change topics.

Lifelong learning helps you maintain your mental edge, as well as your physical dexterity if your choice involves movement such as dance or martial arts.  Engaging with others and relaxing can help lower blood pressure, as can not sitting home and stewing in your own dread of the return to work.  And, if the side hustle is successful enough, you may be able to take what you learned in your Sunday night classes and use it as an escape plan for the nine to five drudgery!
