Avoid Puddlization This Holiday Season

What is self care to you? Is it what Calgon would have us believe, a long soak with candles and maybe a glass of wine? Is it a massage, a trip to Macy's, a chocolate-chocolate chip muffin with a cup of Kenyan AA? It is urgent that you take action to nurture yourself, and your Self, during the holiday hustle. Find your needs and fill them.
Set aside at least one hour every week to focus on you. Do something that brings you peace and joy, or novelty and excitement. This doesn't have to be what mainstream media promotes, consumerism, hedonistic indulgence, food or drink. (It can be, if you want!) Think outside the box. Think outside, period.
- A trip to the climbing gym. Your sole focus will be remaining attached to the wall.
- A trip to the library. Roam the shelves. Find something that intrigues you, whether John Grisham's latest or a cookie cookbook from 1974.
- The classic soak, but with a purpose. We have Love, Creative Energy, Peace, Meditation, Health, and Spring Dawn bathsalts.
- Light some candles, put on some music, and curl up with a good book. Candle choices include Calming, Tranquility, Joy, and Strength, among others.
- Take a walk. Even a short stroll around the neighborhood gets you some fresh air, movement, and endorphins
- Take the camera out for a walk. The cell phone camera works fine. Find something that catches your attention and take a picture. It could be the bird statue with the funny bird hat in the neighbor's yard, the neighbor's cat, a picturesque tree. See things from a new point of view.
- Do an exercise or yoga video on YouTube. Literally see things from a new point of view.
- Go to a museum. Or the zoo. Or the movies.
- Have a novel experience. Do something totally new and out of character. Break the walls of the box. A painting class. Axe throwing. An escape room.
- Start planning your spring garden.
- Meditate, either sitting still or moving.
The sky is literally the limit, unless you can afford space tourism. Sit down and make a list of what you want to do. Anything, no matter how preposterous, can go on there. Then choose something readily accessible and do it. Indulge yourself before you lose who you are or melt into a little fried puddle. Gift yourself some care this holiday.
