How to Choose an Oracle Deck
Fran CareyShare
There are hundreds of oracle decks available today. This adds a certain degree of difficulty to deciding which deck is right for you.
Your first choice is what sort of imagery speaks to you? Do you want animals, a specific animal, fairies, a Wicca themed deck, something based on astrology, on mythology, or none of the above? Whatever your answer, there is a deck for you.
This is where going to your local metaphysical store or shopping online at an established vendor such as isisbooks.com comes in. Often they will have photocopies of or sample cards from the various decks, or sometimes entire decks that you can look through, either in person or on their website. There are also loads of unboxing videos available on YouTube and other platforms that will let you see the artwork.
And you can always go with plain old intuition. Does the cover art or the title draw you to a particular deck? Read the description on the back or the web copy. Does something echo?
You can also use the cards in magic, as a meditation focus, or as a Card of the Day for what you need to be mindful of, or to focus on for that day. Cards can be used to see what the future holds if things progress as they are currently set up to, but they are also a very valuable way to tap into your subconscious and emotions, to see how you really feel about a person, place, or thing, or to help you see how you are getting in your own way in your endeavors.
There are oracles specifically for shadow work, for prosperity, for men, and for women. They can help you see through the lies you tell yourself, get in touch with your inner feminine or masculine energies, your emotions, your strength and courage.
Seek and find the deck that speaks to you where you are right now, and to what you are working with, internally and externally. Chances are it is out there.
